Christian Hiking Network

For Church contact persons

Functions of the contact person:

1. Read through background information to the Network. (If you have any questions please contact a member of the Steering Committee whose contact details are attached).
2. Meet with your Minister/Pastor to discuss and explain the purposes of the Network.
3. Obtain the Minister's permission to go ahead with the Network in the particular Church.
4. At launch arrange for promotional DVD to be played and speak in the Church if necessary and arrange for the notice to be placed in the church bullet in as well as for the poster to be displayed and the registration brochures to be available.
5. Be available to answer any questions from prospective hikers and collect any completed registration forms and pass these on to Allan.
6. Feedback comments and any other matters to Allan.

Christian Hiking Network - background information

Purpose

To provide the infrastructure for churches to network, share hiking knowledge and resources to:

1. Encourage wider Christian fellowship for those who share a love of the outdoors
2. Provide the opportunity for members of Churches, who do not run a hiking group , to participate in such activities.
3. Grow a hiking leadership base across Churches.
4. Provide an outreach to non-Christians (through their participation in the hiki= ng activities)
5. To provide a comprehensive hiking program which will cater for the needs of the participants

The Christian Hiking Network has grown out of the Camps Bay United Church hiking group which has operated for a number of years.

How it works

1. Any person wishing to participate in the hikes needs to complete and return (to his/her Church contact person) the registration form.

2. These forms then need to be given on to Allan.

3. The person's details will be added to the data base and will also be added to the e-mail list.

4. Details of the hikes, the hiking programs as well as details of other hiking activities will be sent out by e-mail on a regular basis.

5. Description of the hikes will be provided to ensure that each person is aware of what the hike is like to assess whether it is one that they can manage.

6. A web-site will also be set up.

7. In the first phase of the roll-out to Churches a limited number of Churches are involved. More Churches will be approached once we have moved beyond the first phase.

For Church notice bulletins

We invite you to join in the activities of the newly formed, inter-Church, Christian Hiking Network. Its purposes include providing a comprehensive range of hiking activities to encourage wider Christian fellowship for those who share a love of the outdoors and to be a ministry to draw in those who do not know the Lord into loving Christian fellowship. Hikes are graded so there is something for everyone - from easy beginners hikes to more challenging hikes for the fit and experienced hikers. We will also be needing to extend our hiking leadership base and, if you are an experienced hiker, we would like to make good use of your skills and experience to lead, or assist in leading hikes. All you need to do to participate in the activities of the Christian Hiking Network is to complete the registration form and hand it to your contact person (whose name is on the registration form) You will then be added to the data base and sent, by e-mail, details of the hikes.
